Illustration
I have always been drawn to illustrating special moments. I do many custom portraits for weddings, Christmas cards, and families. I often bring my love of drawing into my graphic design work as you will see below.
For my Graphic Design II class, we were challenged to create a new cover for a book we love. I chose my favorite book from childhood, The Secret Garden. I wanted to keep the cover simple, but still have a look of whimsy. To do this I created a flower pattern for the background, and then drew the type shown on the cover. The simple jewel-toned palate adds to the "classic" look of the cover.
I really enjoy creating custom card designs. This began at a young age when I would insist on crafting homemade cards for friends and family for any occasion. This bled over into my graphic design world in September 2019 when I created the Christmas card for my university. Since then, I have made a variety of different Christmas cards and a few wedding invitations.
I had an old book about the First Ladies of the United States that had a really old school, tragic cover. I thought that a cover refresh would make me more likely to read the book instead of hiding it away for aesthetic reasons. I really love how it turned out, and hope that someday I will be able to illustrate a book cover in real life.
The Women of EEE is the Social Club that I am a member of at Ouachita Baptist University. I have been able to serve as the "Banner Chair" for the club for the past two years, and am asked to create invites and graphics from time to time. These are a couple of the examples of promotional items I have done for the club. I produced over 15 banners during my time as the Chairperson for the club. I like to think of the banners as mini murals. They are a fun way to engage people at events, and are are a cool combination of graphic design and painting for myself.
